Leak suggests Assassin's Creed: Origins is set in Egypt

It looks as if we now know the name and setting of the next Assassin's Creed title.

It's called Assassin's Creed: Origins and will be set in ancient Egypt, if reports are to be believed.

The news comes from a couple of sources, both of which have since been confirmed as correct by Eurogamer

A recent report from WWG.com named the game as Assassin's Creed: Origins, adding that it's actually a prequel title and is due out this year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Also leaked is an in-game image, which having cropped up on Reddit seems to confirm a return of boats as previously seen in the popular AC: Black Flag.

It was over a year ago that Kotaku reported that the next AC title would be set in Egypt. Previous rumours had pointed to Rome, although there is also the suggestion that the next lead protagonist will feature in a three-part series spanning Egypt, Rome and possibly Greece.

The series took a break last year, although it has been claimed that a 2016 release was at one stage on the cards, but the decision to postpone the game was made following the disappointing critical and commercial performance of 2015's Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate.

Kotaku also claimed that the series may continue along a non-annualised release path in the future. There have been nine major AC games since its debut in 2007.

You would suspect that next month's E3 will be the perfect venue for an official announcement.
