Lots of online functionality missing from Ouya at launch

Ouya consoles will be shipped out to Kickstarter backers later this month, but key online functions will not be enabled until the end of the year.

The Verge reports that online chat, friends lists and achievements won’t be ready, even for the retail release in June. The site had originally reported that online multiplayer would also be absent, although apparently this is not in fact the case.

"We will definitely be supporting online multiplayer – developers just need to build in the functionality," a rep confirmed.

The team behind the Android console also confirmed that while the system will remain predominantly open, some content filtering will be enforced to block adult content and IP violation.
