Macro swoop boosts games-on-demand

The industry has taken another step toward online distribution with the news that Macrovision is set to acquire digital distributor Trymedia.

The deal is worth $34 million and expected to be sealed by July 29th. Trymedia is one of the largest providers of secure digital distribution products and services for the games industry and operates the biggest global downloadable PC game network.

“This acquisition underscores Macrovision’s strategic focus to effectively enable our customers to distribute their games both on- an offline,” commented Macrovision CEO Fred Amoroso.

“Consumers today want to be able to get their game content when they want it, where they want it and that requires a distribution system that enables that flexibility securely, while also protecting the content from massive unauthorised usage.”

Macrovision has announced plans to launch a new games business unit, incorporating Trymedia, offering a complete end-to-end solution for publishers to secure, distribute, promote and continuously renew their video games.
