Madagascar holds off chart challengers

July 26th by Ben Parfitt

Despite strong competition from Brian Lara and Mr. Fantastic, Activision’s animated movie tie-in Madagascar has made it two weeks at number one in ChartTrack’s all formats top 40.

Hot on its heels, however, is Codemaster’s Brian Lara International Cricket 2005, entering the charts at number two and outperforming EA’s Cricket 2005, which holds firm at number six. Both companies are sure to be hoping that England put up more of a fight in the Ashes to sustain interest.

Following its cinematic release, Activision’s other movie tie-in Fantastic 4 climbs from eighth to third, sitting just above EA’s Medal of Honor: European Assault, which remains at number four.

THQ’s B-movie sci-fi romp Destroy All Humans slips from second to fifth, whilst the firm’s other current chart success Juiced falls from third spot to seventh.

Rockstar’s ubiquitous and controversial Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas slides one place to eighth, teetering just above Eidos’ Lego Star Wars, which stays put in ninth. After two weeks at number five, Sony’s celebrated brawler God of War props up the top ten.
