Martin Davies joins GAME board

High Street retailer GAME has hired former Holidaybreak boss Martin Davies as non-executive director.

51-year-old Davies joins the GAME board with immediate effect. He keeps his role of chief executive at travel group Holidaybreak which he has held since April 2010.

Before this, Davies worked as CEO of school trip and holiday firm PGL which was later sold to Holidaybreak. He has more than 14 years’ experience in marketing and brand management with Allied Breweries and Kingfisher. Davies also founded independent record label Tommy Boy Music in 1994 which was later sold to Time-Warner.

GAME chairman Chris Bell said: “We are delighted to welcome Martin to our Board as a non-executive director. He has extensive leisure sector, corporate and marketing experience and an entrepreneurial spirit which will bring complimentary skills to the board as we continue to implement our strategy.”

Martin Davies added: “I am looking forward to joining the board of GAME and supporting Ian Shepherd and his team in delivering their strategy. I am a great admirer of GAME’s multichannel business and brand, and am eager to participate in its continued development as one of the leading specialist retailers in Europe.”

GAME is focusing on growing market share by bridging its e-commerce and High Street operations. It wants to increase pre-owned sales and plans to close hundreds of its stores by 2013.
