MCV beats Royal Mail threat

MCV has today tied up deals to ensure that retail circulation is not affected by any potential Royal Mail strikes.

Up to 4,000 additional copies will be published every week, with direct distribution to all key store managers and indies around the country.

The increased total circulation starts this week, with Centresoft ensuring that an extra 2,500 copies of the trade's essential information resource will reach all stores no later than Friday (October 16th).

Total circulation will then rise again from next week, as direct deals with GAME and others are put into place.

"We don't know yet when any strikes might be and whether they would affect us anyway. But, whatever happens, our circulation to retail is not going to be disrupted in any way through the important run-in to Christmas," commented MCV publisher and Intent Media boss Stuart Dinsey.

"Retail relies on MCV as their single source of targeted information about new releases and product supply, which they pass on every day in-store to hundreds of thousands of consumers.

"This is a pre-emptive move. We are committed to publishing a massive weekly circulation of 14,000 copies all the way to Christmas if we have to. Most key retailers will actually get two copies of the same issue, but we'd rather that than any of them have to wait too long during this important season."

The postal executive of the Communication Workers Union is meeting today to discuss when to start walk-outs, with 120,000 workers protesting over jobs, pay and services.

The union must give seven days' notice of any strike, so the extra circulation of MCV through Centresoft, GAME and others will be comfortably in place before any impact could be felt.

"David Neil at Centresoft deserves special praise for agreeing to help us. He knows how important MCV is to his customers and is making sure that all indie and multiple accounts are well covered. GAME have also been brilliant. Whatever happens during the strikes, MCV will not be affected at channel level," added Dinsey.

As well as publishing 14,000 print copies every week from this Friday, MCV also publishes a daily news bulletin and also a digital edition, which can be downloadable either as a PDF or online page-turning magazine.

MCV: The Market for Computer & Video Games is the UK's leading games trade publication in print and online. Launched in 1998, it covers all sectors of the business and carries exclusive ChartTrack data every week.
