190 jobs lost at HMV
Administrator Deloitte yesterday confirmed that 190 employees have been let go from bankrupt entertainment retailer HMV. Departures include head of technology and games Ewan Pinder and chief financial officer Ian Kenyon.

Nutter heads up Future entertainment publishing
Future has promoted Lee Nutter to the position of group publisher for the entertainment group.

He moves having most recently served on Total Film and Official Nintendo Magazine. Nutter has been at Future since 2003 where he joined as editor of PSW.

“This well deserved promotion reflects the work Lee has put into the Total Film and Official Nintendo Magazine brands,” head of entertainment Clair Porteous stated.

“Lee’s experience in the videogames sector is exceptional and as we continue to drive and accelerate digital growth in the entertainment group, Lee will play a pivotal role in pushing this agenda forwards.”

Nutter added: “This is a fantastic opportunity. The structure is now in place to even further accelerate our huge audience expansion across digital platforms in both games and film. This is an exciting time for the Entertainment Group with some big announcements set for later in the year.” 

GameSpot gets new account director

Michael Thomas has joined CBS Interactive UK as client account director at GameSpot UK. In the role, Thomas will advise clients on the best advertising solutions for their businesses, starting with strengthening GameSpot’s impact among games publishers.

“I’m extremely excited to have joined such an industry leading brand as GameSpot,” said Thomas.

“I look forward to improving our visibility with all publishers, and ensuring we can deliver the best service and most creative advertising solutions within the industry.”

Thomas joins the company from his role as associate director on the EA and Now TV accounts at MediaCom.

New head of games at PlayJam
Mobile industry veteran Sameer Baroova has joined PlayJam as head of games.

“I am thrilled to take the role of head of games at Playjam and look forward to the prospect of being a part of this fast evolving games industry,” said Baroova.

“Playjam is an incredible place to work, full of fun, talented people and having the opportunity to build on its commendable success in the TV Games arena is a real privilege.”

Previously at PopCap Games, Baroova arrives to role with experience on titles including highly popular products such as Bejeweled, Plants Vs. Zombies and Peggle on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and across other mobile platforms.

Willington goes full-time at Pocket Gamer
Peter Willington has been made a full-time member of the Pocket Gamer team, taking on the role of community manager and handheld editor.

“It’s great to have Peter on board in a permanent capacity,” said Pocket Gamer editor-in-chief Kristan Reed.

“As Pocket Gamer increases its focus on social media and continues to reach out to new audiences, Peter is going to help us stay ahead of the game.”
