Update: Konami has now removed the region-lock on the Steam version of Revengeance, and the game is now available for purchase digitally at $30.
The PC version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which releases internationally today, won’t receive a retail release in India.
Origin Games, Konami’s Indian distributor, had earlier sent over a list of games it plans to release in early 2014. Revengeance was absent from that list, and Origin has now confirmed that the game will not release in India on PC.
Making matters worse for PC gamers is that while the game is being sold on Steam, for some reason, it isn’t listed for Indian users. The same is also the case for PES 2014, although strangely, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – also a Konami title – is available in Indian on Steam.
There is one way out, however. Indian PC gamers can purchase the digital version of Revengeance for PC from Amazon.com, which can be activated on Indian Steam accounts by using a VPN. Do this at your own risk though, because Valve frowns upon the use of VPNs on Steam and has been known to ban users for it.
If you do happen to own a PS3 or Xbox 360, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is available at retail in India for Rs 3,499, or you could get it digitally via PSN or Xbox Live for around Rs 1,900.
The Konami games that are releasing in India this quarter are Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.
