Microsoft admits to Blu-Ray support

From the moment Toshiba confirmed the death of HD-DVD many have been expecting an Xbox 360 Blu-Ray drive to be announced – and whilst we’re still waiting Microsoft does now seem to have moved a little closer to such a development.

SeattlePi.com

quotes Microsoft’s chief executive Steve Ballmer as stating: "We’ve already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-Ray drives and the like.

"I think the world moves on. Toshiba has moved on. We’ve moved on, and we’ll support Blu-Ray in ways that make sense.”

The news follows the apparent confirmation from Sony that it is in talks with both Microsoft and Apple concerning the uptake of Blu-Ray in their devices.

It seems that Xbox 360 support for Sony’s format is inevitable, though it is still unknown whether it will be an integrated feature or a device similar to the now-dead HD-DVD add-on.
