MICROSOFT: Cloud storage for Xbox 360

Following Microsoft’s E3 press conference yesterday, the firm announced that Xbox 360 will receive a new cloud storage system.

Using this, gamers will be able to sign into their Xbox Live account from any 360 console before accessing their game saves, profile and making purchases. They will also be able to check up on their achievements and friends.

At the moment a player can access all this via their gamertag which is saved on their Xbox 360 hard drive.

Yes, cloud storage is coming to Xbox LIVE,” Xbox Live director of programming Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb said on Twitter.

Your profile and game saves available wherever you are.”

Microsoft also announced a redesigned Xbox Live dashboard is on the way, as is search engine Bing. Gamers will also be able to use ‘Beacons’ to tell their Xbox Live and Facebook friends that they want to play a game on Xbox LIVE.

In an article later uploaded to his blog, Hryb added: Cloud storage will allow you to enjoy the same great Xbox Live gaming experience even when you’re not in your own living room, by giving you the option to store your ‘game saves’ securely in the Xbox Live cloud instead of on a portable memory unit or your console’s hard drive.

Gone are the days of ‘gamertag recovery’. Now all you need to do is sign in, no matter where you are.”
