Microsoft claims the initial $150 price point for its new Kinect motion controller has not been finalised.
The company previously gave it a price tag of $149.99 on its official online store, but a warning has now been added to the listing: “Official pricing has not been announced. $149.99 is an estimate only and subject to change”.
Additionally, the platform holder’s director of policy and enforcement for Xbox Live Stephen Toulouse posted on Twitter: “Guys, I have nothing to do with Kinect pricing. All prices now *no matter what the retail source* are placeholders. We’ve not announced.”
This latest ambiguity about the device’s price point comes as leading retailers tell MCV that Microsoft needs to charge less than £100 for Kinect if it wants to capture its intended audience.
