Australia and New Zealand now have the ability to earn Microsoft points for their activities on XBox LIVE, including renewing subscriptions and making online purchases.
The scheme launched in the UK and US earlier this year, and is available only to a select few territories. It gives readers Microsoft points for activities including purchasing downloadable content and arcade games, watching TV or movies, completing periodic online surveys and being a loyal XBox LIVE user.
While some features are exclusive to XBox LIVE Gold users, the scheme is available to free users as well, for anyone on XBox LIVE over 18.
The scheme is welcome addition to XBox LIVE, bringing it in line with other service-based payment industries. Loyalty programs have become ubiquitous amongst credit card companies, airlines and other sectors aiming at repeat business and locking customers in.
Advocate users are yet to be properly cultivated and rewarded in the console gaming sector, and Microsoft’s new scheme looks to be a key indicator for the future direction of XBox LIVE.
