Midway games for £2.50 at Sainsbury's

Other popular back catalogue Midway PS2 titles at the shockingly low price point include Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance and Primal, as well as MK: Deception and The Suffering on Xbox.

It is unclear whether the games – which are all available from website sainsburysentertainyou.com – form part of Sainsbury’s recently announced £70 million price cuts.

Other supermarkets have also confirmed new year price reductions across their range. Tesco is reducing the price of 600 items by a total of £80 million, while Asda has promised to drop the price of 2,000 items.

Tesco’s website offers some choice offers on PS2 games as part of its new year sale, with EA’s Cricket 07 the best value at £22.97 – 43 per cent less than its list price of £39.99. Activision’s Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (£19.97) and Vivendi’s Legend Of Spyro (£24.97) are also amongst the retailer’s most eye-catching PS2 offers.

Asda completes the supermarket PS2 new year sell-off with tempting offers including Activision’s Spiderman 2 and Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, both down from £39.99 to £12.97 – a 35 per cent saving on each.

Supermarkets enjoyed a lucrative performance from their range of games in December with Tesco boasting a record Christmas for non-food products. The supermarket behemoth revealed that group sales, excluding petrol, increased by 9.9 per cent in the six weeks to January 6th.
