Mind Candy and Gree team up for Moshi Monsters on smartphone

London media group Mind Candy has struck a deal that allows mobile giant Gree to co-develop and operate a smartphone edition of the Moshi monsters games.

The joint venture is expected to deliver two new Moshi Monsters mobile games in the final months of 2012.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Future Moshi Monsters mobile games will hosted on the Gree Platform, a vast mobile network which incorporates OpenFeint social networking technologies.

And in what could be a significant opportunity for both parties, it has been agreed that the Moshi Monsters game will be localised for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin.

Our fans love tablets and smartphones so we’re really excited to take our much loved characters and stories to these new platforms,” said Mind Candy CEO Michael Acton Smith.

Gree’s business is under significant pressure across Asia following a landmark decision to better regulate the practice of selling virtual items.

In May, Japan state officials implemented a ban certain microtransaction techniques in social games, in a move that plunged Gree’s share price into free-fall.
