MMOs fill 15% of game time

Today’s Gamers MMO Focus Report says gamers in the U.S. and Europe spend over five hours a week playing MMOs – or 15% of total play time. The report includes hardcore fantasy epics such as World of Warcraft as well as children’s favourites like Club Penguin. 40% of MMO players say they pay to play an MMO.

The report, covering 13,000 respondents, found that console play and casual game portal play both made up less than five hours each.

Peter Warman, MD of the report’s publisher Gamesindustry.com said, "The days we could categorize gamers on the basis of a single game platform are long gone. Of the U.S. console players 29% also play MMOs and 25% play on their mobile phone. Also typical for today’s gamers is the fact that more than half of U.S. console gamers (55%) also plays on casual game portals. All these platforms are increasingly competing for time and money of the same consumer." Thanks to Industrygamers.
