Monopoly heads to Facebook

Hasbro’s family board game Monopoly can now be played on Facebook online for free.

Facebook users can play Monopoly Millionaires in a web browser on PC and invite friends to play together. As usual the aim is to buy hotels across the board and amass the biggest fortune in Monopoly money.

Players are rewarded for having more friends in the game, as the more they visit friends’ boards, the more success they’re likely to have in their game. Users can also roll the dice consecutively and don’t have to wait for their friends to finish their turns.

The news comes following the release of Monopoly Streets on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii and DS late last year. A version of Monopoly is also available on iPhone, Kindle, Windows Phone 7 and Android platforms.

We strive to continually re-imagine Hasbro brands digitally in creative ways and Monopoly Millionaires is no exception,” said EA’s senior VP and GM of its Hasbro division Chip Lange.

We’re bringing the world’s favourite game brand into the new era of social gaming, offering an accessible and enjoyable experience for Facebook users worldwide.”

Facebook’s director of platform and mobile marketing Katie Mitic added: Monopoly is a great example of the legacy that can be created when games are built to be social from day one.”
