As despite presumptions to the contrary, the title will not be a Rock Band extension but will instead take the form of a standalone product that will apparently “unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of The Beatles”.
The title is said to have been conceived with input from Paul McCartney, Ringo Stary, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison.
“The project is a fun idea which broadens the appeal of The Beatles and their music,” Sir Paul said of the game. “I like people having the opportunity to get to know the music from the inside out.”
Ringo Starr added: “It gives me great pleasure to be part of this new partnership. The Beatles continue to evolve with the passing of time and how wonderful that The Beatles’ legacy will find its natural progression into the 21st century through the computerized world we live in. Let the games commence.”
Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos has since gone on to clarify that the game “will be a new, full-blown custom game title production built from the ground up”.
Little more is known of the game as of yet, though it’s understood to be compatible with existing Rock Band 2 peripherals.
