Capcom is confident its latest beat-‘em-up can top the record-breaking success of Street Fighter IV.
Marvel vs Capcom 3 landed on UK shelves last week (Friday, February 18th) and continues the popular crossover series that sees the publisher’s characters battle against superheroes such as Iron Man.
On Monday it debuted in second place in the UKIE GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40.
The 2009 release of Street Fighter IV sold 2.5m copies worldwide within a month of its release. Capcom believes Marvel vs Capcom 3 can beat this.
“We tore up the beat-‘em-up scene with Street Fighter IV, but now we’re going to do it all over again with Marvel vs Capcom 3 in the ultimate tag-team crossover,” said Capcom’s UK product manager Karl Reader. “The series has gone from strength to strength.”
Capcom also partnered with GAME for a UK sampling tour of Marvel vs Capcom 3, which ran throughout the past five weeks, driving pre-orders.
