Namco Bandai reports income surge

Operating income at Namco Bandai rocketed by 767 per cent to YEN 16,338m for the year ending March 31st 2011, the publisher has reported.

This compares very favourably with the 92 per cent decline suffered in the last finical year. Recurring income climbed 760 per cent to YEN 16,399. Net sales climbed 4.1 per cent to YEN 394,178m.

Sales, while better than FY 2010, fail to match those posted in any year between 2007 and 2009.

Sales in Namco Bandai’s Content division reached YEN 179,917. That’s YEN 10,000 ahead of 2010 though less than the three years before that.

Japan was by far the most important region for the firm, accounting for YEN 312,356. European sales reached YEN 37,023m, America YEN 28,021 and Asia YEN 16,777. Though Namco Bandai’s Japanese operations reported an operating income of YEN 23,578m, losses were reported in all other territories.

Games software sales increased slightly overall from 77m units in 2010 to 81.2m.

The publisher also revealed that the critically adored Enslaved has sold 730k units worldwide, a number that’s probably far less than most ardent gamers would have hoped for such an ambitious title.

Tekken 6 remains the company’s best selling title (1.15m units) followed by Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 (1.1m) and Ben10: Ultimate Alien (830k).

PS3 was by far the most successful platform, mirroring Namco’s Japanese success. 7.8m PS3 games were sold in the period in total, followed by Wii (4.2m), Xbox 360 (2.68m), Wii (2.27m) and DS (2.1m).
