Spearheaded by veteran independent store owner Steve O’Brien, the IRG has announced its ambitions via MCV and has already garnered support from across the industry.
However, it would seem that actually uniting the independent sector may be the toughest job for O’Brien and the group, with NASCR CEO Clive Bishop claiming that his trade body is already catering for this area of the High Street.
“I am particularly impressed that Steve O’Brien’s plans are to eventually deliver what NASCR already has in place now,” he blasted to MCV.
At the same time Game Guide editor – and indie champion – Chris Ratcliff has warned that apathy amongst retailers will be a major hurdle for the new association: “I know the indies and I know they are generally incapable of helping themselves.”
