Need for Speed is returning in 2017

It looks like Assassin’s Creed is not be the only big IP returning this year.

Developer Ghost Games has confirmed that its new Need for Speed title will be out by year end. The last console NFS title was 2015’s simply titled ‘Need for Speed’.

Ghost has also confirmed that, unlike the 2015 title, this new game will feature a completely offline single player mode.

To say that this is a topic you’re passionate about would be an understatement, and whenever there’s a topic that gathers as much attention and feedback from you as this did, we take note,” the studio admitted.

So, when release day rolls around for the next Need for Speed, you will be able to play through a single player experience completely offline. Before you ask, and we know you will, this does mean you will be able to pause the game.”

Specific details about what direction the next instalment will be taking remain unknown, although Ghost has dropped some hints.

Customization, we love it, you love it, everyone loves it,” it added. Rest assured that we’re committed to customization having a home within the Need for Speed series. It’s not going away and it will play as strong a role as ever as we move forward into the next game and beyond.

Let’s talk about cops. There’s nothing more satisfying than getting into a cop chase and feeling the heat on your tail as you tear it up through the city. Cops in pursuit, racers up ahead and then out of nowhere BAM! They bring a Rhino to a street race.

Whether you’re checking out your freshly customized ride or smoking the competition in an event up in the canyons, you’re going to want a world that not only looks beautiful, but offers you the space in which to do the things you want.”
