Need for Speed screeches into first place

Hot on its heels, Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 5 climbs two places to claim second spot, partly due to the release of the PSP version. EA’s other two entries in the top ten come next, with last week’s number one Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire slipping to third and FIFA 06 climbing one spot to fourth.

VU’s 50 Cent: Bulletproof gets off to a strong start, entering the chart in fifth place. LucasArts’ Star Wars Battlefront II slips four places to sixth spot, whilst THQ’s WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2006 falls from third to seventh.

Thanks to widespread PSP Giga Pack bundling, Sony’s World Tour Soccer enjoys its second week in the top ten, though it does slip one spot to eighth position. Activision’s Call of Duty: Big Red One improves on last week’s performance, climbing from 12th to ninth place, whilst Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories props up the rest of the top ten for the second week in a row.

With only three weeks to go before Christmas, the software market again reaches a new high this year, with sales value up by 24 per cent, climbing to over £43m. Despite this, however, much like last week many new releases fail to penetrate the top 10.

Nintendo’s Mario kart DS debuts at number 13, Activision’s True Crime: New York City enters the charts in 20th and BVG’s Christmas hope The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe claims 13th.
