New games controller hardware on the way from OnLive

Cloud-gaming service OnLive may be on a mission to eliminate the console, but that isn't stopping it launching hardware: a universal joypad controller.

Costing £39.99 and going on sale soon, the joypad is designed for PC, connected TV and tablet users of OnLive and works with most games in the services' library of around 200 games.

Effectively, the controller means that anyone who already owns a tablet device only need buy the OnLive joypad for high-end console and PC games wherever they are.

The pad 'utilises OnLive’s exclusive adaptive wireless technology to automatically find an optimal wireless connection for a given tablet, smartphone, PC, Mac, TV or Blu-ray player'.

The Universal OnLive Wireless Controller will soon be available for purchase in the US and UK through the OnLive web store and will likely be sold at retail in the UK via OnLive's deal with High Street chain GAME.
