New major games distributor emerges

One of the world’s largest DVD and music distributors has entered the games business in a big way.

Cinram UK will replace MBL as Morrisons’ official DVD, music and games distributor from September 14th.

Although Cinram has worked with the likes of Ubisoft and EA in the past, this marks the firm’s boldest move into games yet. And it wants more from the market, too.

Cinram International CEO Steve Brown said: We’re looking forward to providing Morrisons with market-leading distribution services for its entertainment titles.

I am proud of the work put forth by both our distribution and retail services teams in tailoring a winning solution for Morrisons.”

The grocer ended its 14-year relationship with MBL last week, forcing the distributor to put itself up for sale. 78 per cent of MBL’s turnover in its last fiscal year was made through its deal with Morrisons.
