Supermarket giant Morrisons has slashed the price of Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games on Wii by over 50 per cent.
The game, which hit shelves today, has an RRP of £39.99, yet Morrisons is selling the title for £18.99. The offer lasts until Sunday.
Sainsbury’s is also offering a deal for Mario & Sonic, bundling the game in for free with Wii hardware.
These promotions come in the wake of aggressive price cutting on FIFA 10, which saw the game reduced to £25 at Tesco for its launch weekend. And Asda last week stocked Codemasters’ Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising for just £27.99.
The industry responded to this supermarket activity, with Konami’s UK boss Peter Stone calling the price war: “unnecessary and worrying.”
