New PS3 hack claims surface

The PS3 is facing a new piracy scare.

Engadget reports that a new USB modchip claims to allow users to ‘dump’ game code onto a storage device (such as a USB stick or the PS3’s internal HDD). These can then be played without the use of the original disc.

Though there’s no way of knowing how real the claims are, the verifications continue to emerge both from hackers and gaming tech-heads.

The worrying development comes after cult hacker George Hotz failed to make good on his lofty threats to expand his basic efforts at exploiting the machine into a full-blown hack.

To date the PS3 remains the only piracy-proof console on the market.
