New publisher set to challenge Future

A new force in games magazines has emerged, with bold ambitions to take on the ‘boring’ titles from Future and Highbury.

Imagine Publishing has been established by former Paragon heavyweights Damian Butt and Mark Kendrick, with the duo claiming that the company will “breathe new life into modern video games magazines”. The firm’s first titles – which will be announced shortly – will be launched in the autumn.

“There has never been a more exciting time to be in the games industry and we are proud to offer a true alternative with Imagine,” Butt told MCV.

“We’ve spent the last six months bringing back the smiles and playing the latest games, reading all the magazines and watching events unfold. Games magazines these days are so similar, they’re boring and there is definitely room for a fresh approach. It’s time to up the stakes and let the big boys know they can’t have it all their own way.”

Kendrick added: “We’ve set out to establish a creative free-thinking ideas-driven publishing environment and we’ve done just that. Imagine Publishing is the company we always wanted to run and now it’s a reality. We are the future of magazines.”
