New Resident Evil spotted on Xbox website

Another week, another Resident Evil game. This time Capcom looks set to release Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (or Biohazard Revelations 2, as the series is called in Japan).

The game was leaked on the official has surfaced on a number of European retail websites, before being pulled. But then it appeared on Xbox.com. Which is as close as a confirmation as you’re going to get. It looks set for Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One and PS4. No mention of any Nintendo platforms, which is where the ‘Revelations’ brand started.

Capcom’s official statement is: Capcom has made no announcements for Resident Evil.” There’s no word on a release date, but we expect to hear more soon. Perhaps at Tokyo Games Show, that’s our guess.

What is Resident Evil Revelations? Well it was the 3DS game released in 2012 that does an ample job of contradicting those critics that say: ‘Resident Evil hasn’t been good for ten years’. It bridged the gap between Resident Evil 4 and 5, and saw the series return to its survival horror roots (as opposed to the more action gunplay of Resident Evil 5 and 6).

It reviewed well and fans liked it. Although sales wise it didn’t do particularly well. Of course, this was partly due to the fact it was released on 3DS (which was struggling at the time). It was ported and remastered for Xbox 360, PC, PS3 and Wii U a year later.

If Revelations 2 continues the horror theme of its original, then it would join a list of big horror games coming to market over the next 12 months. Upcoming horror releases include Alien Isolation, The Evil Within, Until Dawn and Silent Hills.

Capcom announced last week that it will be releasing an updated version of 2002 Resident Evil remake for new consoles and PC early next year.
