The Interactive Media Fund (formally the Digital Media Initiative) has today confirmed the first New South Wales developers to receive part of its new funds.
Halfbrick, one of Australia's largest indie success stories, has received funding to help create its new Sydney office, which will be working on the Fruit Ninja franchise.
Sydney-based developer Nnooo!, (which created the sublime Escape Vektor for Wiiware) has successfully received funds for a planned expansion to their Pyrmont operations.
Other recipients include Dog Money World and its advanced mobile games platform, educational software by INKIDS Pty Ltd, a serious game designed to assist paramedics by the Ambulance Research Institute, MOD Productions and its location-based mobile game, and animated series tie-in Habitat: the Game, which is being handled by Australian Documentaries.
This will be the first of much good news to come out of the standing and proposed new funding regimes from state and federal governments across Australia as our development industry kicks back into gear, and should hopefully see moves towards good health for the entire sector in due course.
