The biggest force in games retailing Stateside opens the shutters on its site at the Bull Ring shopping centre in Birmingham. And further openings are expected to quickly follow.
GameStop already boasts an astonishing 1,746 stores, with the majority of them based in the US. An international roll-out has long been mooted, though, with the chain already established in Puerto Rico and Guam.
Closer to home, the chain targeted Ireland, taking over the long-established Gamesworld stores in August 2003 in what many saw as a move to gain a foothold in Europe, whilst it also learnt the vagaries of games retailing this side of the Atlantic.
GameStop confirmed that a store will open in Birmingham this month, but refused to comment on its further plans.
However, MCV understands that the company is already in talks to acquire smaller games chains to quickly establish a strong presence in the UK.
