Nexus phone and tablet line could be scrapped by Google

Google is rumoured to be readying the axe for its Nexus hardware line.

BGR reports that Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin has claimed on Twitter that the Nexus brand will be discontinued in 2015, with the upcoming Nexus 5 smartphone likely to be one of the final launches.

Google’s hardware interest will persist, however, with an extension of its ‘Play Edition’ licensed releases. To date that has seen the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One become available in vanilla Android ‘Play Edition’ versions, without any of the manufacturer bloatware included on the device.

To date several companies have been tasked with producing Nexus hardware including HTC (Nexus One), Samsung (Nexus S and 10), LG (Nexus 4 and 5) and Asus (Nexus 7).
