The platform holder’s success was attributed to the ongoing popularity of the DS and Wii. Full-year sales of Nintendo’s dual-screened handheld reached 23 million units, with software sales hitting 123 million. The sales take the DS’ total global installed user base to 40 million.
Since its launch five months ago the Wii has sold 5.84 million hardware units and 29 million games. Whilst this figure is impressive, it would undoubtedly be higher were it not for the on-going stock-shortages plaguing every territory.
Nintendo forecasts that for the fiscal year beginning April 1st 2007 it will sell 14 million Wii consoles and 22 million DS handhelds. Along with this, the company expects to sell 55 million Wii games and 130 million DS titles.
The platform holder also forecasts a sales jump of 18 per cent and a profits jump of 20 per cent over the next year.
