Nintendo unveils Mario Switch bundle, plus Doom and Wolfenstein II

Nintendo unveiled a swathe of new Switch and 3DS titles last night, including a brand new Super Mario Odyssey-themed Switch hardware bundle and the news that Bethesda’s critically acclaimed Doom (2016) and upcoming Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus titles will also be heading to Switch over the next year.

Doom will be the first title to arrive of the two, arriving this winter shortly after the release of the previously announced Switch version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which launches on November 17th. Wolfenstein II will then arrive sometime during 2018.

Meanwhile, joining the Mario hardware bundle will be Mario-themed Joy-Con controllers going on sale, as well as a Super Mario Odyssey Edition Switch carrying case and screen protector set. Interestingly, the Mario Switch bundle won’t actually come with a physical copy of the game, as Nintendo has opted instead for a download code so players can get the digital version off the Nintendo eShop. All this launches alongside the game on October 27th.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 also received a release date (December 1st), and Nintendo showed off the special edition of the game as well, which includes a sound selection CD, a metal game case and a 220-page hardbound art book. There will also be a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 themed Switch Pro controller launching on December 1st in time with the game.

There was good news for Snipperclips fans as well, as Nintendo announced that not only was the game heading to retail (previously it was only available as a download code with a pair of Joy-Cons), but that it would be arriving in a new Snipperclips Plus edition with added content. Players who already own the digital version will be able to buy the new content as DLC. This arrives in stores on November 10th.

On the amiibo front, Nintendo revealed that the four Champion figures for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will only be available as a four-pack, and will be arriving in shops on November 10th. These will summon special head gear for Link in the game based on each champion’s respective Divine Beast, but further functionality has yet to be announced (presumably they’ll also have some effect on the game’s upcoming DLC as well).
