NPD: Nintendo breaking its own sales records

Despite the gloomy economic news emerging stateside in November, Nintendo has plenty to cheer about after seeing its hardware range continue to go from strength to strength according to the latest NPD stats.

The platform holder shifted 3.6 million pieces of hardware overall in the period. The Wii sold over two million units, representing its strongest ever non-December performance.

The DS shifted over 1.56 million units, which is its second highest non-December total ever. In total, Nintendo accounted for 66 per cent of all November hardware sales in the territory.

Lifetime US sales of the Wii currently stand at 15.4 million units and the DS nearly 24.6 million units.

Nintendo’s record-breaking sales demonstrate that consumers are looking for the best value not only among video games, but also among all entertainment options,” Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway stated.

Shoppers are looking for gifts that can be enjoyed by the whole family, and Nintendo provides an incomparable range of experiences that gets the whole family involved.”
