NZ distributor sends a gamer to Iraq

NZ distributor sends a gamer to Iraq

New Zealand distributor Fiveight is sending a gamer to try and cross the border from Turkey into Iraq to promote Turtle Beach headsets.

The entire saga will be broadcast as a series of webisodes starring the gamer in question, 24 year-old Phil or 'StatiC' as he's known, the trailer for which is available here.

This brazen PR move is designed to put a seasoned, hardcore gamer who's been playing with professional gear and peripherals for years into a real warzone to see if the products match up.

Ben Ward, MD of Fiveight, said: "Gamers play in virtual warzones every day and night, and they want the immersive feeling of combat, so we thought we’d take that experience one step further. They want a real experience? Turtle Beach can give it to them."

"We needed to show a tough, discerning market that Turtle Beach gaming headsets don’t just make the gaming experience sound real - it feels real. As StatiC is about to find out - it won’t get any more real than this."

The move certainly is bold, and carries some risk considering the televised nature of the whole scenario and market-leader position Turtle Beach finds itself in. Regardless, it's one of the most interesting stunts to come out of Australia or New Zealand this year.
