Oculus VR reveals consumer Rift headset, Oculus Touch motion controls

Oculus has unveiled the consumer version of the Oculus Rift headset, along with a new motion controller prototype dubbed Oculus Touch.

At its Future of Oculus event held earlier today, CEO Brendan Iribe explained the company aims to deliver the magic of presence” with its hardware – moving gaming away from 2D surfaces in favor of immersing the player into the game as much as possible.

The Rift features two OLED screens that will deliver images at low persistence and with no motion blur, according to Iribe. It will also feature a wide field of view and the new constellation tracking system – which can precisely track a player’s position – as well as its own integrated audio system that will provide 360 degree spatial sound.

Alongside the new model of Rift, the VR firm debuted its line of Oculus Touch motion control peripherals. Oculus Touch prototype Half Moon was on display, while Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey reaffirmed capturing presence and stating that the company wants to make players believe their virtual hands are your actual hands.”

Oculus Rift is currently scheduled for a Q1 2016 release. As previously reported, an Xbox One controller and wireless adapter will be packed with every consumer model sold.
