Omni VR treadmill creators get $3m investment

Virtuix has announced it has completed a $3m round of seed invesement for its successful Kickstarter VR treadmill project, Omni.

Games Industry reports the company announced today that the funding is being led by Tekton Ventures and Maveron, with contributions coming from Scentan Ventures, Radical Investments, Scout Ventures, StartCaps Ventures, and various private investors as well.

"We believe Virtuix’s virtual reality technology will not only disrupt the immersive gaming landscape but will enable even more useful, personal and entertaining experiences in areas beyond gaming: training and simulation, fitness, medical, military," said Tekton founder and managing partner Jai Choi.

"The Omni is just scratching the surface to the possibilities and we’re honored to be working with Jan [Goetgeluk, Virtuix CEO] and the Virtuix team."

The Omni hit the map last year, raising $1.1m to develop the VR treadmill tech on a Kickstarter campaign asking for only $150,000. The $500 hardware currently boasts more than 3,000 pre-orders, and is now expected to start shipping to customers this summer.
