Palmer Luckey's Trump donations see Chrono Trigger make global headlines

What’s the betting that Chrono Trigger’s Wikipedia page has enjoyed record traffic in the last few hours?

In an odd turn of events, The Washington Post has discovered that now departed Oculus founder Palmer Lucky has been surreptitiously donating to Donald Trump via shell companies with names relating to 1995 SNES RPG release Chrono Trigger.

$100,000 was donated by a company called Wings of Time, which is the name of a time travelling machine from the game. Furthermore, Wings of Time is managed by another company called Fiendlord’s Keep, which is the name of a castle in Chrono Trigger reference.

Luckey’s name does not appear in the Wings of Time committee filings, but he is named as the sole officer of Fienlord’s Keep, which is also housed in one of Luckey’s offices.

For those who are unaware, Luckey’s relationship with Oculus went sour last year when it was revealed that he had financed a pro-Trump group called Nimble America that created memes designed to discredit Hilary Clinton.

He said at the time that he was “deeply sorry that my actions are negatively impacting the perception of Oculus and its partners” and insisted he was “a libertarian”, although clearly his support for Trump has endured.

After a prolonged spell out of the public eye, Luckey’s departure from the new Facebook-owned Oculus was confirmed last month.

However, having gone silent on Twitter since September, Luckey appears to be back on the wagon, fuelling speculation that he had been gagged by his former employer.

Facebook said of Luckey’s departure: “Palmer will be dearly missed. Palmer’s legacy extends far beyond Oculus. His inventive spirit helped kickstart the modern VR revolution and helped build an industry. We’re thankful for everything he did for Oculus and VR, and we wish him all the best.”
