PC Remote Play for PS4 arrives tomorrow

Sony’s PS4 will get a big new piece of functionality as part of tomorrow’s (April 6th) console update.

Remote Play will be added via PC and Mac for the first time, allowing owners to play their console through their computer, freeing up the TV and offering more freedom to play in and around the house.

Users will require Windows 8.1 or later (OS X 10.10 or later on Mac). The default resolution will only be 540p, however, although this can be upped to 720p or reduced to 360p depending on a user’s network. 30fps will be standard, although a 60fps option is available.

Users can play via a DualShock 4 plugged in via USB to their computer. It has not yet been revealed how PC and Mac owners will get their hands on whatever client is needed to get the tech all up and running*.

Other new features include the option to appear offline, broadcasting to DailyMotion (YouTube and Twitch are already available), an in-built PSN status check, a new Teen Account creation option and a PSN Plus Hub for subscribers. Sony’s PlayStation smartphone app will also be updated.

* A commentor on the PlayStation Blog claims this is the link for the PC client, although it won’t go live until tomorrow
