Persona 5 mistake saw orders cancelled for being ‘dangerous’

Publisher Atlus has been forced to clarify that the Premium Edition of Persona 5 does not contain ‘dangerous materials’.

Polygon reports that some US customers who had ordered the steelbook edition of the upcoming RPG from Amazon recently received emails telling them that their orders had been cancelled – and for a very bizarre reason.

This is because this item contains regulated materials classified as dangerous goods and cannot be delivered by Amazon,” the cancellation email read. Although the amount of these substances in these products is usually quite limited, these products need to be transported in a certain way to ensure that they are handled with care.”

So what exactly is in the Take Your Heart edition of the game? Listings point to a CD soundtrack, hardcover art book, bag and Morgana plush, as well of course as the steelbook and the game itself. None of which sounds especially dangerous.

Fortunately, Atlus has since confirmed that some sort of unspecified mix up was to blame for the error.

This morning we were surprised to learn about Persona 5 ‘Take Your Heart’ Premium Edition cancellations with Amazon,” Atlus said. After waiting patiently during the day we received word, and can confirm to you what we’ve always known, that there’s nothing defective or ‘dangerous’ about our product.

While there have been cancellations, we understand that only a tiny number of Amazon sales have been affected. No ‘mass cancellations’ of the premium and SteelBook editions have occurred.”

Persona 5 will be released in the UK for PS4 and PS3 on April 4th. The game has already been awarded top marks by Official PlayStation Magazine.
