Peter Moore is leaving EA for Liverpool FC

One of video games’ longest serving executives has been named as the new CEO of Liverpool Football Club.

Peter Moore, a devoted and livelong fan of the club, will assume his new position in June, reporting directly to owners Fenway Sports Group.

If you’ve seen him on stage, or follow him on Twitter, or have ever read an interview with him, you will have a sense of Peter’s wit and charisma. What you should also know is that he is an unbelievable teammate, a tireless leader for our people, and his deep appreciation for great games and the passionate players in our communities is unwavering.

We’ve been fortunate to have Peter doing that with us here for almost a decade. We could not be happier to see him take the helm at Liverpool, and I personally could not be more honoured to call Peter a dear friend for life.”

Wilson added that Moore will continue to work at his current post at EA’s Competitive Gaming division until his departure.

Moore first became a prominent figure in the games industry when working at Sega, where he helped head up the US launch of the Dreamcast and steer the company through its transition away from the hardware business.

He joined Xbox not long after the launch of its first console and played a pivotal role in the tremendous success of the Xbox 360. He joined EA in 2007, naturally gravitating towards its thriving sports division. He eventually rose to COO.

In an era when company executives feel they must be guarded when talking to the press, Peter was always a little different. He never held back and was never afraid to speak his mind, and MCV always loved our time with him. We wish you the very best of luck, Peter.
