Plants vs Zombies 2 launches on Android

Plants vs Zombies 2 has launched for Android devices, available now as a free download on the Google Play store.

To celebrate the platform release, which requires an Android 2.3 device or newer,PopCap has discounted the in-game Jalapeno item for the week.

The Android release arrives two months after the game’s original launch on iOS – a fact that suddenly became under scrutiny, after EA’s Frank Gibeau claimed the Android delay was due to a payoff from Apple.

Gibeau’s comment was swiftly denied by Apple, and Popcap’s Tony Leamer later explained to The A List Daily it was PopCap’s typical development style that caused the launch date discrepancy.

If you look at the way PopCap develops games, we start with one platform and get it right.”

Regardless, Plants vs Zombies 2 is now out on both major mobile platforms. EA and PopCap haven’t officially mentioned any other platforms so far for the game, but (for what it’s worth) the original PvZ eventually released on everything under the sun.
