PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds hits 2m Early Access sales

Breakout PC hit PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has hit a new sales milestone on Steam.

The game, which released at the end of March, has now hit 2m Early Access sales. This follows the news that it reached 1m sales after just 16 days on sale.

PUBG drops 100 players onto an island. Everyone is unarmed at the beginning and must race to find weapons and armour. The gameplay tension of this Hunger Games style scenario is that the play area is randomly limited each match, with a receding circle drawing survivors closer and closer together until eventually they are forced to confront one another.

It very much follows the template laid down first by the Arma 3 Battle Royale mod and then by Daybreak's H1Z1. Indeed, Brendan Greene – AKA PlayerUnknown – worked on all three titles. For PUBG he teamed up with Korean developer Bluehole.

In conjunction with the news, Greene has announced a Charity Invitational to take place today.

“Ever since I started the Battle Royale game mode back in Arma 2, I have always wanted to use my game mode to help those in need when possible. Back in Arma 3 I held two charity events in support of Extra Life, and with the tremendous support of the community and streamers we raised over $70,000 for the kids,” he said.

“I am delighted to announce we will be continuing to help those that need it with PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, and are hosting our first charity invitational. We have chosen Gamers Outreach as our first charity, as the work they do to provide equipment, technology, and software to help kids cope with treatment inside hospitals is something I think is well worth supporting.”
