PlayStation business back in profit as PS4 production costs fall

Sony has credited the “strong” performance of PS4 for a good performance in its quarter ending June 30th.

Sony's overall numbers saw sales and operating revenue climb 5.8 per cent to ¥1,809.9bn, with operating income nearly doubling at ¥69.8bn.

The Game and Network Services division, home of its PlayStation business, saw sales and operating revenue soar 95.7 per cent to ¥257.5bn while last year's operating loss of ¥16.4bn reversed into an operating profit of ¥4.3bn.

Although it declined to expand upon PS4 sales number of 7m revealed way back in April, Sony did add that it has already reduced the cost of manufacturing PS4s – another factor that helped the numbers.
