Price cuts boost Asda market share

Asda’s market share has risen over the last three months, thanks to price cuts attracting more customers.

Data from TNS Till Roll shows that the supermarket’s market share rose from 16.7 per cent to 17 per cent in the 12 weeks ending July 12th, according to The Retail Bulletin.

Like-for-like ales increased by 7.9 per cent, with food, the George clothing range, and home and leisure outperforming rivals stores in their respective markets.

“We’re pleased with these results as they demonstrate the ongoing health of our business,” said Asda’s chief financial officer Judith McKenna.

“By continuing to be the lowest price retailer and by broadening our appeal, we’re attracting more customers and increasing our sales volumes. Our home and leisure business has strengthened and our food business continues to outperform.”
