Pro Evo is top of the league

Pro Evolution Soccer 5 becomes the fastest-selling football title, within the opening seven days, of all time, a record claimed briefly by FIFA 06 only four weeks ago. It also pips FIFA 06 to the crown of the fifth fastest-selling PS2 title of all time.

In a good week for PC gaming, Sega’s Football Manager 2006 debuts at number two in this week’s chart, one place ahead of last week’s number one, FIFA 06. Rockstar’s The Warriors enters the charts in fourth spot, one place ahead of Nintendo’s Pokemon Emerald at number five.

Meanwhile, VU’s F.E.A.R. debuts at number six as EA’s Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 slips from second to seventh. Activision’s Ultimate Spider-Man falls from fourth to eighth, despite a 21 per cent increase in sales. Atari’s Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi enters the charts in ninth spot, just ahead of another new boy, Activision’s Quake 4.

It has been a strong week for the software market, with a 55 per cent jump in value, taking weekly sales to £29.46m and unit sales to 1,209,135.
