PS3 confusion at Littlewoods

Spong reports that gamers desperate to pre-order their next-gen Sony console ahead of the expected UK March launch are able to do so via Littlewoods Online right now. But the retailer’s prices may cause some to think twice.

Leading the pack is a bundle featuring a 60GB PS3 console and a copy of Motorstorm priced at £549. With the RRP of the console expected to be £425, this suggests the game itself carries a price tag of over £120. Despite this, however, gamers wanting to buy the game on its own need only pay £55.

Other bundles suggest equally erroneous software pricing, with the Resistance: Fall of Man, Pimp My Ride and Rainbow Six: Vegas bundle coming in at £659. This works out at £78 a game.

Even more bizarre is the bundle including FIFA 07 – a title EA has previously stated it will not be publishing on PS3.

Elsewhere on the site, however, there are signs that Littlewoods is intending to up its stature within the games market. As well as a large image of a Silver PS2 sitting centre stage in its Christmas shopping visual, an extensive games section can be found within the toys section of the site.

However, as is the case with PS3, gamers face paying over the odds on many items. A bundle featuring a Nintendo Wii console and a copy of Zelda: Twilight Princess costs £249 – just under £30 more than the standard combined RRP.

Despite this, the retailer does claim to have stock available – offering a possible life-line to gamers who have so far been unable to secure a Wii for themselves on launch day this Friday.
