PS3 piracy threatens Trophy system

Claims of a possible hack that threatens the security of the PlayStation Trophy system have emerged online.

CVG reports that the homebrew application allows the user to instantly unlock all Trophies associated with a title, adding the accolades to their PSN ID. The Trophies are even given random timestamps so as not to seem suspicious to any possible tracking by Sony.

The hack even works with proper retail copies of PS3 games as well as PSN titles, though some games.

Sony has previously spoken of its desire to maintain the security of its Trophy system. It’s that very concern that lead to the decision to abandon any plans of bringing Trophies to PSP – a console that has been widely hacked.
