PS4 smashed its Australian sales records over Christmas period

PlayStation 4 had quite the year in Australia in 2015.

According to NPD Australia’s 2015 data Sony’s hardware was the best-selling home console of the year and was behind 59 per cent of all home console hardware unit sales.

Furthermore, 59 per cent of console market value was made up by PlayStation 4. And 49 per cent of console software sales were for PS4.

In addition, PS4 software outside ‘its closest competitor’ (Xbox One, obviously) by 84 per cent in terms of units and 82 per cent in terms of value.

Sony Australia has said it smashed previous PlayStation performance records for the region over Christmas and December 2015.

At last count, PlayStation 4 had globally sold35.9 million units. DFC Intelligence predicts that the hardware will sell over 100 million units globally over its lifetime.

NPD Group Australia’s Luis Gil added: As PS4 maintains its leadership position in the home console market, it is evident that the home entertainment unit has played an instrumental role in the market success of the Australian Interactive Entertainment category.”
