TinyBuild Games just announced that Punch Club has grossed over $1m (£0.6m) in just 10 days, with more than 100,000 sales across all platforms.
It follows the game’s unusual marketing push via the 'Twitch Plays’ system.
Punch Club was launched on Steam on January 8th and on iOS on January 14th. But prior to its release, the developer Lazy Bear and publisher TinyBuild challenged thousands of players to team up and complete the 1990s-inspired boxing tycoon game via Twitch.
The Twitch Plays phenomenon started in 2014 with Twitch Plays Pokemon, when thousand of players tried to complete the game by inputting commands into a chat box. The game was finally completed after more than two weeks. Since then, other games have received ‘Twitch Plays’ including Dark Souls, Super Mario Bros and Final Fantasy.
Punch Club is due out on Android on January 28th and the iOS version will be updated soon to match Steam’s version.
TinyBuild Games also announced that a major content update is expected for the end of February. It will expand the original storyline.
